Demographic Features Of Pregnants Who Are More Than 40 Years Old in Agri

Objectives:

The term "advanced maternal age " is used for 35 and older pregnants. And for 40 years old and older pregnants "extremely advanced maternal age" term is used. We aimed to discuss the demographic features of the pregnants who are older than 40 years old.

Place:

Agri Maternity and Children Hospital, Agri

Material-Method:

Total 960 pregnant patients who are older than 40 years old and who delivered in Turkish Republic Health Ministry, Agri Maternity and Children Hospital between 2004 to 2007 years were assessed. These 960 patients were assessed according to intrapartum fetal demise, preterm labor, existence of preeclampsia and eclampsia, gestational week, birth method and birth weight.

Results:

114 patients delivered by caesarian section and 846 patients delivered by vaginally (%88-%12). İt was detected respectively; ablatio placentae, in 26 patient (%2), preeclampsia in 12 patient (%1), fetal distress in 26 patient (%2) and intrauterin growth retardation in 94 patient (%10). İt was detected intrauterin ex fetus in 92 advanced maternal aged patients who delivered in our clinic.

Discussion:

Finally, advanced maternal age is one of the risk factors which complicates pregnancy and it increase the risk of operative delivery. But in our study, operative delivery risk is detected lower in comparison with literature
