Simulation training constitutes the transition from the theoretical training to the practice on the process of medical education. Simulation training provides people an opportunity to learn their work, develop skills and repeat the application prior to the actual application. Until 2004, the process of obstetric simulation training has focused on acquisition of training procedural skills on obstetrics such as amniocentesis, conducting breech birth, managing shoulder dystocia, and managing obstetrics emergencies and trauma. Later on, obstetric simulation mainly focused on team work and team performance. Therefore, the identification of clinical errors, the reduction in clinical risks and the improvement of clinical outcomes were mainly investigated. Generaly used gynecologic simulators include gynecological examination, suture techniques, the implementation of intrauterine and subcutaneous contraceptives, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, and placement of periurethral sling. The aim of this article is to provide an overview on simulators and simulation training within obstetrics and gyneacology.
