OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficiency of single dose intramuscular methotrexate in the treatment of ectopic pregnancy. METHOD: 85 cases of ectopic pregnancy cases treated with methotreaxte between October 2003 – December 2006 were evaluated retorospecitively. Success of treatment was defined as a resolution of ectopic pregnancy without performin surgical intervention. The cases that the treatment was successful and those that are not were compared for pretretment – hCG values, the volume of the mass, and the endometrial thickness. RESULTS: The success rate after methotrexate treatment was found 88.2%. There was no significant difference in pretreatment beta - hCG values, the volume of the mass and endometrial thickness between the cases successfully treated and those that are not (p=0.62, p=0.57, p=0.18). The mean resolution time for beta - hCG was defined as 24.5 days. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that single dose systemic methotrexate treatment can be used as an option in unruptured pregnancies.
