OBJECTIVE: To determine effect on insulin resistance of metformin therapy in obese and nonobese patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Design: Controlled clinical study Setting: Department of Gynecology of Baskent University Konya Hospital, Konya, Turkey Patients: Twenty-four patients with PCOS Interventions: Patients were treated with 1.7 gr/day p.o metformin for 16 weeks. Main outcome measures: Serum glucose, insulin were measured and body mass index (BMI), HOMA-IR (homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance) were calculated before and after treatment.
