OBJECTIVE: Assesment of dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea and amount of menstrual bleeding of the patients who underwent bilateral tubal ligation using Pomeroy technique during caesarean section at the end of postoperative first year. Design: In this prospective study, 98 women Who underwent bilateral tubal ligation using Pomeroy technique during caesarean section in our department between january 2002 and december 2003 were included. Main Outcome Measures: Patients Characteristics such as age, number of living children, and degree of education were recorded. Preoperative dyspareunia, dysmenorrhea and the amount of menstrual bleeding were compared with the same parameters at the end of postoperative first year. RESULTS: 98 women were included in this study and all the patients had bilateral tubal ligation during caesarean section by Pomeroy technique. There were a significant increase in dyspareunia, and significant decrease in dysmenorrhea and the amount of mentrual bleeding levels between preoperative and at the end of postoperative first year. CONCLUSION: In general, the amount of mentsrual bleeding does not increase after bilateral tubal ligation, and also bilateral tubal ligation does not increase the hospitalization. However, more detailed future studies with larger groups are needed to enlighten the long-term effects of this issue.
